Server Newport Gurney's Newport Resort & Marina

General Job Requirements:

Gurney's Newport offers 257 guestrooms and more event space than any other property in Newport. Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina is a popular destination for all sorts of stylish business and social gatherings, as well as truly memorable weddings. Our expansive grounds offer 360-degree water views, providing an ideal setting for our fine restaurant overlooking Newport Harbor, lounge with wraparound deck, full-service spa, and outdoor saltwater pool.

The Server is responsible for pre-setting the restaurant, serving the meal courses, maintaining any side work stations, clearing all tables during and after each meal, and storing equipment towards the end of each shift in its proper place. Must be able to courteously handle all guest requests and be available to work a flexible schedule. The Restaurant Server is responsible for making guests feel welcome, comfortable and well attended to at all time.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Approach all guests and a friendly, service oriented manner.
  • Prepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glassware.
  • Complete all sidework and cleaning duties as described in the SOP's.
  • Have full knowledge of entire menu, as well as daily specials, desserts, etc.
  • Greet guests, inform of daily specials.
  • Present menus to guests and answer questions about menu items, making recommendations upon request.
  • Explain how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methods.
  • Describe and recommend wines to customers.
  • Check with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems
  • Serve food or beverages to patrons, and prepare or serve specialty dishes at tables as required
  • Prepare checks that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes
  • Remove dishes and glasses from tables or counters, and take them to kitchen for cleaning.
  • Respond to guest complaints in a timely manner.
  • Keep immediate supervisor fully informed of all problems or matters requiring his or her attention.
  • Participate in department meetings.
  • Insure compliance with all local liquor laws, and health & sanitation regulations.
  • Insure that all restock and cleaning is performed towards the close of shift.
  • Accurately complete daily cash out report.

Education Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years restaurant experience
  • Skills and Abilities: Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.
    Computer literate
    Strong Communication Skills
    Must work well in stressful, high pressure situations
    Ability to multi task
    Must be effective at listening and understanding
    Strong Customer Service Skills
